On November 9,
2005 three terrorist bombings using explosive belts, targeted three hotels in
Amman. The first explosion occurred at exactly 9:30pm in Amman at the entrance
of the LandMark hotel (formerly known as the Radisson SAS Hotel) near Abdali.
The second bombing took place at the Grand Hyatt Amman Hotel, and the Days Inn
Hotel and Suites was targeted minutes afterwards.
Fifty-seven people
ware killed and more than 150 were injured — the high death toll due to the
fact that one of the explosions occurred at a wedding party for a Jordanian
family.
Al-Qaeda in Iraq,
formally known as Organization of the Base of Jihad in Mesopotamia, claimed
responsibility for the terrorist bombings.
