According to Al-Mamlaka TV, Marar affirmed, during his
opening speech at the Jordanian-European Consultative National Workshop on
Green Hydrogen on Wednesday, that Jordan aspires to be a regional center for
the production and export of green energy, especially with its excellent solar
energy sources and qualified human resources.
He pointed out that renewable energy from
wind and solar power contributed to 27 percent of the electricity generated in Jordan at the
end of last year, compared to 1 percent in 2014. He described this as a great
opportunity for Jordan to play a leading role in the global transition to
clean energy such as green hydrogen.
Marar mentioned that the ministry is working on developing
policies and regulations for hydrogen, including the preparation of the
national green
hydrogen strategy that envisions making Jordan a regional hub
for green hydrogen and PtX products.
Thiebaut Moure, Deputy Head of the
EU Delegation to Jordan,
stated that the transition to low carbon is not only a necessity but also an
economic opportunity.
He highlighted that the
Ministry of Energy in Jordan has
signed 7 memoranda of understanding with private sector developers for green
hydrogen and ammonia production projects.
