AMMAN — Jordan celebrated
World Heritage Day on Tuesday under the slogan of "Heritage Changes".

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and
the Department of Antiquities illuminated some of the Kingdom's world heritage
sites in blue or purple to mark the occasion.
The power of heritage
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, MakramAl-Qaisi, emphasized the power of cultural and natural heritage at local,
national, and global levels.
The sites signify the achievements of past
and present cultures, their diversity, innovation, social relations, values,
and beliefs. Accoridng to Qausi, Heritage is an essential symbol that indicates
the history and culture of people.
World Heritage Day encourages us to
celebrate all world cultures, including the six sites in Jordan, while raising
awareness of landmarks and sites, he added.
Qaisi also highlighted that Jordan aims to
cooperate with other countries in preserving and protecting cultural treasures
and natural areas worldwide through its six sites on the World Heritage List.
Heritage for Mankind
Department of Antiquities Director Fadi
Balawi stressed that world heritage is a common wealth for all mankind, and
protecting and preserving this valuable wealth requires collective efforts from
the international community.
Celebrating this day, he said, is an
opportunity to raise public awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage
and the required efforts. Jordan and the Department of Antiquities have spared
no effort to protect, develop, and sustain the sites listed on the Heritage
List, as well as the 15 tentatively listed sites.
Balawi announced that the department will
carry out several activities and initiatives aimed at raising awareness of these
heritage sites, their significance, and the outstanding universal value of each
site.
The department also held awareness lectures
for schools to introduce students to the principle of world heritage and
heritage sites.
The six sitesThis year's slogan "Heritage
Changes" aims to focus on the climate changes facing World Heritage Sites
and address it with new methods in line with UNESCO protocols.
Jordan has six sites on the World Heritage
List, which are Petra, Qasr Amra, Umm Al-Rasas, Wadi Rum, the Baptism site.
