AMMAN — The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission has unveiled the details and objectives of the recently implemented time-linked electricity tariff in Jordan, which went into effect earlier this month. This innovative tariff structure applies exclusively to four sectors: the medium industrial sector, water pumping sector, electric vehicle charging sector (residential), and electric vehicle charging sector (public stations).اضافة اعلان

According to Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission spokesperson Tahrir Al-Qaq, the initiative is currently in its experimental and preliminary phase, aimed at alleviating the strain on the electrical grid during peak hours and ensuring a more balanced distribution of the load throughout the day, Nabd News reported.

Peak load
The peak load period for electricity consumption spans from 5pm to 11pm daily.

During peak hours, the new tariff rates for each of the four sectors are as follows: electric vehicle charging (residential) at 15 piasters per kilowatt-hour, electric vehicle charging (public stations) at 15 piasters per kilowatt-hour, the medium industrial sector at 8.8 piasters per kilowatt-hour, and the water pumping sector at 12 piasters per kilowatt-hour.

Notably, consumers have the flexibility to charge their electric vehicles outside the peak hours, which extend from 6am to 2pm, and benefit from a lower tariff.

For non-peak hours, the tariff rates for charging electric vehicles (residential) are set at 9 piasters per kilowatt-hour, while electric vehicles at public stations will be charged at the rate of 9 piasters per kilowatt-hour. Similarly, the tariff rates for the medium industrial sector during non-peak hours are 6 piasters per kilowatt-hour, and for the water pumping sector, it is 8 piasters per kilowatt-hour.

Partial peak period
Additionally, a special tariff has been introduced for the "partial peak" period, which encompasses two time slots: the first slot runs from 2pm to 5pm and the second slot extends from 11pm to 6am. The tariff rates during these partial peak hours for each sector are as follows: electric vehicle charging (residential) at 11.7 piasters per kilowatt-hour, electric vehicle charging (public stations) at 11.2 piasters per kilowatt-hour, the medium industrial sector at 6.8 piasters per kilowatt-hour, and the water pumping sector at 9.5 piasters per kilowatt-hour.

The commission emphasized that once the experiment concludes and the impact on load distribution has been evaluated, the concept of time-linked electricity tariffs will be extended to other sectors, including the residential sector.
