The conference will involve a ministerial meeting on June
15, as well as a Day of Dialogue on the preceding day, which aims to engage
civil society from Syria and beyond, decision-makers, and operational partners
in discussions regarding Syria, the region, and the associated humanitarian and
resilience challenges, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.
The EU emphasized that the conference will serve to renew
the political and financial commitment of the international community to
support Syria's neighboring countries, with a particular focus on Jordan,
Lebanon, Turkey, Egypt, and Iraq.
The statement highlighted the significance of Brussels VII
as the primary pledging event of the year for Syria and its neighboring
countries.
The overarching objective of the Brussels Conferences is to
ensure sustained support for the Syrian people, both within Syria and in the
broader region, by mobilizing the international community in favor of a
comprehensive and credible political solution to the Syria conflict in
accordance with UN Security Council resolution 2254.
The Brussels VII conference will address critical
humanitarian and resilience issues affecting Syrians in Syria and neighboring
countries, as well as the impact on communities hosting Syrian refugees in the
region, as stated by the EU.
Furthermore, the conference will provide an interactive
platform for dialogue between the EU and civil society, including
non-governmental organizations actively engaged in Syria and the region.
Since 2011, the EU has contributed approximately 30 billion
euros in support of Syria and its neighboring countries.
The Brussels Conference serves as a key opportunity to
reaffirm this commitment and discuss ways to address the ongoing challenges in
the region.
