In a statement sent to Jordan News, the ministry denounced the continuing Israeli violations of Al-Aqsa Mosque, the latest of which saw the storming of large numbers of extremists to the holy site, under the protection of Israeli forces.

Ministry spokesperson Dayfallah Al-Fayez said that Israeli practices against Al-Aqsa constitute a “blatant violation to the historical and legal status quo, international law, and Israeli obligations as an occupying force in East Jerusalem.”

Al-Fayez stressed that the entirety of the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, spread over an area of 144 dunums, is a place of worship for Muslims, and that Jordan’s Jerusalem Awqaf Department has exclusive jurisdiction over the management of all its affairs, and the regulation of access to the site, as per international law and the historical and legal status quo.

Al-Fayez also called on the international community to uphold its responsibilities by pressuring Israel to cease its violations of the holy site, according to the statement.
