AMMAN — Jordan needs a
food security strategy
that will meet the Kingdom’s needs during emergencies and cultivates wheat and
barley, Secretary-General of Jordan Farmers Union Mahmoud Al-Oran said,
according to Al-Mamlaka TV.

Furthermore, the General Association for Foodstuff
Merchants is calling for the establishment of a food security council.
Oran urged the country to make the optimal use of the
arable land in the
Jordan Valley, using land owned by the state for
agriculture, and trading potash and phosphorus exports for agricultural
imports. He also highlighted the difficulty of securing goods, foodstuffs, and
feed.
Vice President of the General Association for
Foodstuffs Merchants Khaldoun Al-Aqaad said that the Ministry of Agriculture is
moving in the right direction, but that further action is required to ensure
the supply of affordable food, namely the establishment of a food security
council.
