AMMAN —
Minister of Agriculture Khaled Al-Hneifat is
set to participate today in a quadripartite meeting of the agriculture
ministers of Jordan, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon in Damascus.

Hneifat told Al-Mamlaka TV that the meeting is a
continuation of previous quadripartite
meetings held last year in Baghdad, Beirut, and Amman, and will conclude with the signing of memoranda of
understanding.
On Saturday, Hneifat had said in a press statement that the
meeting would be held over the course of two days under the title
"
Achieving Agricultural Economic Integration at the Regional Level".
Meeting agendaThe meeting, he said, aims to find joint solutions to
food security-related challenges through agricultural integration, and to facilitate
the flow of goods between the four countries.
According to the Syrian News Agency, SANA, participants will
also discuss ways to enhance trade exchange and mechanisms to support regional
projects and address climate challenges and land degradation.
During dialogue sessions, the four countries’
agricultural strategies and calendars will be presented. The meeting will also include a
field visit to scientific and research centers.
Regional food observatoryThe four ministers had previously agreed to support an
initiative by the
Food and Agriculture Organization of the
United Nations (FAO)
to make Jordan the host of a Regional Observatory for Food Security.
The ministers had also recommended a study by the
World Food Program on the possibility of establishing a regional center for food security
and emergency food aid in Jordan, in order to enhance services and the regional
crisis response.
