AMMAN — Jordan participated in the closing ceremony of the Euro-Med Transport Project
Conference (EUMedRail) that was recently held in Brussels, Belgium, Al-Ghad

The meeting brought together 16 high-level officials
and experts from the Euro-Mediterranean countries, in addition to
representatives from the European Committee of the Regions, and the EU Agency
for Railways, the European Commission, the Union for the Mediterranean, and the
Intergovernmental Organization for International Carriage by Rail.
A statement
issued by the
Ministry of Transport said that the Jordanian delegation
participating in the conference made a presentation on the progress made in the
national railway network project and the details of the first phase of the
project, which will link Aqaba with Amman.
The delegation
told the conference that there is a plan to prepare a feasibility study for the
rehabilitation of the Hijaz Railway on the Amman-Zarqa portion, and toward
Queen Alia International Airport, as part of the Jordanian transport sector
strategy for the years 2022-2027.
EUMedRail
reviewed the achievements and results of the technical assistance provided in
2022 to the participating countries.
The EUMedRail project
was operational between 2017 and 2022; it was funded by the Directorate General
for Neighborhood and Enlargement of the EU Commission, with a budget of 2
million euros, for the purpose of transferring technical assistance to the
Euro-Mediterranean countries.
