AMMAN —
Jordan participated in the directive committee’s meeting of the iHERITAGE: ICT
Mediterranean platform for
UNESCO cultural heritage project, according to the
Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The project is
funded by the
EU’s largest cross-border cooperation initiative under the
European Neighborhood Instrument.
The meeting, held
in
Alexandria, tackled the project’s progress and its next phase in terms of
tourism promotion and financial situation, in addition to the participating
countries’ accomplishments and obstacles facing them.
Rida Al-Khawaldeh,
president of the Jordanian Society for Scientific Research, Entrepreneurship
and Creativity , represented Jordan in the meeting.
Khawaldeh said the
project will benefit Jordanian archeological sites, especially Petra, by using
computer and information technologies in making promotive videos and holding
many cultural events, including invisible heritage.
The project’s coordinator Talal Al-Akasha said it will put
Jordan on the global tourism and culture map. He said that the project’s total
budget is 3.8 million euros, of which 3.4 million is offered by the EU and 10
percent by partners.
