Amman - A delegation from the Ministry of Water and the Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) participated in the International Conference on Geographic Information Systems (ICGIS ) organized by the Environmental Systems Research Institute Inc (ESRI) in San Diego, California, USA.

The presence is part of cooperation programs with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and efforts to develop the Kingdom's water supply systems, reduce costs and raise operating efficiency for drinking and irrigation water, reduce water loss in implementation of Jordan National Water Strategy, push achievement, and explore modern and advanced fields globally.
According to a ministry statement Wednesday, the JVA's Secretary-General, Hisham Heisa, said the Kingdom's water sector is following up on the implementation of the conference's recommendations, which is the "largest" international event for spatial and geographic information systems technologies and their applications in various fields, especially water loss reduction.
Heisa noted expertise transfer of the Jordanian water sector with a number of international experts and learning about their experiences would have the "greatest" impact on developing the Kingdom's water supply system.
This effort comes as the conference brought together experts in this field to transfer and develop the workers' skills in the water sector, aimed to advance operations to achieve a better future, and focus on modern technologies, which would contribute to build economic capabilities and sustainable growth, he pointed out.
Heisa noted Jordan's participation enabled participants to learn about the latest technologies in the fields of using artificial intelligence, smart spatial analysis, developments in managing and updating geographic data, and 3D imaging.
Further, he added that the conference is an "important" opportunity to review "successful" Jordanian experiences in the sector, especially in light of the increasing water challenges, and efforts to ensure the efficient delivery of drinking water and irrigation.
On the sidelines of the conference, Heisa discussed with the Director of the Water Sector at Esri David Wachal , key topics, primarily improving data accuracy and unifying systems.
The statement stated that Esri team reviewed examples and success stories of companies globally that used geographic information systems technology and unified operations, based on unified standards to reduce water loss.
