with Jordan, in recognition of the Kingdom’s significant role in maintaining
stability in the region, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During a ceremony marking Cyprus’ Independence Day
on Tuesday, loannou said that the 60-year-old ties with Jordan have grown
steadily since their establishment on February 26, 1962.
He added that the opening of the Cypriot embassy in
Amman in 2009 and of the Jordanian embassy in Nicosia in 2016 were critical in
the development of relations between the two countries.
In recent years, Cyprus and Jordan have exchanged
frequent visits at various levels, the most recent being His Majesty King
Abdullah’s visit to Cyprus in last December, said the envoy.
According to Ioannou, the trilateral mechanism
established a few years ago between Cyprus, Jordan, and Greece, has added a new
dimension to Cyprus cooperation with Jordan.
The three countries, he said, share perspectives on
matters of mutual interest and attempt to address common challenges, for the
benefit of all three nations and of regional stability.
“In the framework of this trilateral mechanism, the
president of Cyprus hosted the first trilateral summit in 2018; His Majesty and
the prime minister of Greece were present. President Anastasiades looks forward
to welcoming them again to Nicosia later this year for the 4th trilateral
summit,” said the ambassador.
He said many Jordanians visit Cyprus frequently for
holidays, investments, or university studies.
“Our world is facing many challenges which can only be
addressed through dialogue and the fundamental respect for international law of
all countries,” he said.
