AMMAN – A report by Oxford Insight indicated that the Jordanian government has made significant progress in global artificial intelligence (AI) readiness, with Jordan ranking 55 out of 193 countries worldwide. The 2023 Government AI Readiness Index is based on measuring three basic pillars: government, technology sector, and infrastructure, relying on 39 sub-indicators across 10 dimensions, including innovation capacity, size, adaptability, digital capacity, governance, vision, data availability, infrastructure, human capital, and data representation.

Jordan improved by more than 20 percent in the Government AI Readiness Index, in line with the clear vision of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship to elevate Jordan to be one of the leading and competitive countries in the field of artificial intelligence. This is through the efforts made by the ministry to create a stimulating environment to attract companies working in AI, as well as promoting investment in the field.

Thus, Jordan has achieved the first target of the Jordanian AI Strategy and Implementation Plan for 2023-2027, which was approved by the government through the Council of Ministers in October 2022.

It should be noted that the Jordanian AI Strategy and Implementation Plan for 2023-2027 aims to build a supportive system for AI by building Jordanian capabilities, developing skills and experiences, encouraging scientific research in the field of artificial intelligence, in addition to enhancing the investment environment and entrepreneurship in the fields of artificial intelligence, as well as applying artificial intelligence tools to improve the efficiency of the public sector and priority sectors.

Jordan’s ranking significantly improved compared to 2022, where it ranked 63 out of 181 countries, and 80 out of 160 countries in 2021.
