AMMAN — Jordan ranks 53rd globally and 8th
in the
Arab world in the 2022 Global Hunger Index (from least hungry to most
hungry) report, which is released annually to raise awareness and understanding
about the struggle against hunger, Khaberni reported.

Jordan scored 10.6, up from 7.4 in 2014, an increase
of 3.2 points, in this year’s report that was issued by
Action against Hunger,
Germany, and Concern Worldwide (Ireland’s largest aid and humanitarian agency).
The report stated that Jordan, according to the
UN Food and Agriculture Organization, witnessed an increase in the prevalence of
undernourishment from 6 percent in 2013–2015 to 16.9 percent in 2019–2021.
According to the report, which is issued every seven
years, Kuwait ranked first among the least hungry countries, along with 17
other countries, followed by the UAE, which ranked 18th globally, Tunisia 26th,
Saudi Arabia 30th, Algeria 32th, Morocco 47th, Lebanon 52th, followed by Jordan
53rd, Egypt 57th, Oman 60th, and Iraq 66th.
In the Arab region, three countries ranked at
“alarming” rates of hunger: Somalia, Yemen and Syria, which ranked last in the
list.
