The Human Freedom
Index’s seventh annual report measures 82 distinct indicators for personal,
civil, and economic freedom in a variety of areas, including rule of law, security
and safety, movement, religion, association, assembly and civil society, expression
and information, relationships, size of government, legal system and property
rights, sound money, freedom to trade internationally, and regulation.
According to the
co-published report, the Human Freedom Index ‘HFI’ is considered the most
comprehensive index on freedoms to be created for countries and jurisdictions
that represent 98.1 percent of the world’s population.
On a scale of 0 to 10,
10 representing more freedom. Jordan
scored 6.91 in the overall ranking, and the Kingdom’s best numbers came in the
areas of security and safety (9.0), movement (7.8), sound money (9.9), freedom
to trade internationally (8.0), regulation (7.9), and governmental investment
(9.0).
The report noted to a decrease
in the level of freedom worldwide according to data that was collected prior to
COVID-19 pandemic, therefore it is likely that the lack of freedom would
further increase worldwide in future reports. It is also likely that the
countries classification will vary largely.
The Human Freedom Index
is a resource that can help to more objectively observe relationships between
freedom and other social and economic phenomena, as well as the ways in which
the various dimensions of freedom interact with one another.
