AMMAN —
Commissioner of Tourism and Environment of the
Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Nidal Al-Majali said since the beginning of 2022, Aqaba
received 70 cruise ships, or about 20 percent of the world’s shipping tourism,
Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

Majali said that
the city of Aqaba is one of the main pillars of the “golden tourism triangle”
for the European tourist reception for its integrated infrastructure, starting
from King Hussein International Airport, which receives approximately 14
low-cost direct flights, in addition to the maritime port.
He said he
believed that Aqaba and the Wadi Rum region are the cornerstone of the world’s
tourism programs.
The Aqaba
maritime port will receive 96 new cruise ships, and the number could increase,
according to Majali.
He also noted
that the
Wadi Rum region is attractive to domestic, Arab and foreign tourism,
receiving nearly 250,000 visitors over the past 10 months.
