In a tweet from the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, Majali
confirmed that the process of handing over the MP by the Israeli authorities to
the concerned Jordanian security authorities has begun on the King Hussein
Bridge.
No details of the deal to hand over Adwan to Jordan have
been revealed yet, according to a local media outlet.
Lower House Speaker, Ahmad Safadi, has also announced that
the Lower House has decided to lift the immunity of MP Adwan.
Safadi said that the government has submitted a request to
lift the immunity of MP Adwan in order to bring him to trial before the State
Security Court.
Earlier, Safadi had requested the government and media to
leave the dome of the council for an urgent matter related to the case of the
arrested MP.
Israeli minister criticizes release as a ‘strategic mistake’Meanwhile, the Israeli National Security Minister, Itamar
Ben Gvir, has criticized the handing over of MP Al-Adwan as a strategic
mistake.
Ben Gvir said that the decision to release the Jordanian MP
should have been discussed in the Israeli Cabinet. He also stressed that the
right-wing government should stop its policy of weakness towards Gaza, Jordan,
Lebanon, and any party that seeks to harm Israel.
Former MP and lawyer Osama Al-Saadi, a member of the defense
team for MP Adwan, confirmed that Adwan was released from the Ofer prison and
that there will be no session to extend his detention.
He will be released within the next few hours to the King
Hussein Bridge and returned to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
Adwan was arrested by Israeli authorities on April 23, while
crossing the King Hussein Bridge from Jordan to the occupied West Bank.
Israeli authorities said Adwan allegedly attempted to
smuggle weapons and gold across the bridge.
Information gathered from the footage indicates that Israeli
authorities seized around 270 weapons, including 167 glocks, and 100kg of gold.
