AMMAN — In the 2020 edition of
the Economist Group’s Democracy Index report, Jordan’s score fell by four
points, according to Al-Ghad news.
The report revealed that the Kingdom ranked 118th globally and 8th regionally on the index, scoring
3.62 points out of 10.
The
index evaluates countries based on several sub-indicators, including political pluralism, government performance, and political participation, among others.
According to the report, the rate of Jordan’s parliamentary election participation, which sat at 29.9 percent in 2020,
contributed to the sharp decline. The report also ascribed the fall to COVID-related,
government-imposed restrictions.
