AMMAN — On September 28, in Beijing, China,
UNESCO, in
collaboration with the Chinese government, celebrated the International Day of
the Girl with an awards ceremony honoring achievements in girls' and women's
education. Representing Jordan at this event was Dr. Mayyada Abu Jaber, who had
been appointed by the Director-General of UNESCO in 2020 for her significant
contributions to the advancement of
education for girls and women, making her
an international jury member for the prize.

She said “being appointed as an international jury member
representing the region for this prestigious award, it was a great opportunity
for me to showcase the achievement of Jordan and the region in ensuring gender
parity for women and girls in education.”
She continued by saying “it is an important global platform
to voice my vision in advocating for gender equity not only in education but
also in the workforce. “
The ceremony was inaugurated by Professor Peng Liyuan, the
First Lady of China, who delivered an inspiring speech during the event and
presented the awards to the winning laureates. The Star Schools in Pakistan
received one of the awards, while the second laureate, the Spring Bud Project
of the China Children and Teenagers' Fund, was honored by Ms. Audrey Azoulay,
the Director-General of
UNESCO.
Following the award presentation, Jaber participated as a
speaker in the International Symposium on Girls' and Women's Education, where
efforts toward
women's economic empowerment in Jordan were prominently
featured.
