He said in
comments Tuesday that the number of people above 60 years old is expected to reach
an expected 8.6 percent by the end of 2030, and 15.8 percent by the end of
2050.
Miqdadi spoke at
an event organized by the council, in cooperation with the UN Population Fund,
to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons, during which Jordan’s Grand
Mufti Abdul Karim Al-Khasawneh highlighted Jordan’s keenness to meet the needs
of the elderly, especially those who lack shelter or care.
Public and private
institutions are joining together to care for this segment of society, said
Khasawneh, stressing that loyalty to the elderly in society is a moral
commitment that begins with respecting parents and grandparents.
