AMMAN —The
Kingdom’s apparel and footwear imports increased by 27.2 percent and 25.5
percent respectively in nine months of 2022, compared to the same period last
year, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Textile and Ready made Clothes Syndicate’s
statistics showed that the value of apparel imported into the Kingdom between
January and September amounted to JD174 million, compared with JD136 million in
the same period of 2021.
The value of the Kingdom’s footwear imports
during the January–September period amounted to JD42 million, compared to JD33
million in 2021, the data showed.
China was the top exporter of clothing and
footwear to Jordan by 40 and 62 percent, respectively, between January and
September this year. The Kingdom’s clothing imports from China amounted to JD70
million, compared to JD56 million during the same period of 2021.
The rest of the Kingdom’s apparel imports
during the past nine months of 2022 included Turkey at a value of JD41.9
million, non-Arab Asian countries, excluding China and Turkey, at JD41.6
million, Arab states at about JD13 million and European nations at JD6 million.
In the same period, the Kingdom’s footwear
imports from
China amounted to JD26 million, compared to JD21 million for the
same period last year 2021.
The rest of the Kingdom’s footwear imports during the past nine
months of 2022 included Turkey at a value of JD4 million, non-Arab Asian
countries (excluding Turkey and China) at a value of about JD6 million, Arab
countries at JD1.6 million and European nations at JD2.7 million.
