AMMAN — The Kingdom's imports showed a mixed trend from
January to May 2023, with declines in crude oil and its derivatives, jewelry,
and plastics by 5.4 percent, 18.4 percent, and 8.6 percent, respectively,
according to the
Department of Statistics (DoS).

However, there was a significant increase in
imports of vehicles, bicycles, and their parts by 33.6 percent, machinery and its parts by
10.8 percent, and machinery and
electrical appliances by 11.3 percent, among
other materials which saw a rise of 1.5 percent, the Jordan News Agency, Petra
reported.
The DoS foreign trade data revealed that the value of crude
oil and its derivatives imports amounted to about JD1.360 billion, while
vehicles and bicycles reached about JD572 million, and machines and automatic
tools accounted for about JD480 million from January to May 2023.
Conversely, jewelry and ornaments imports were around JD427
million, machinery and electrical appliances were about JD363 million, and
plastics and its products stood at approximately JD249 million during the same
period. Additionally, other materials had an import value of about JD4.197
billion.
Overall, the total value of the
Kingdom's imports during the
first five months of 2023 experienced a slight increase of 1.2 percent,
reaching JD7.649 billion compared to JD7.559 billion for the same period last
year, as per DoS data.
