AMMAN
– On Wednesday, Dr.
Rajai Muasher, the chair of the Jordanian Senate's Finance
and Economy Committee, met with the Minister of Finance, Mohamad Al-Ississ, to
discuss the financial policy and the economic reform program signed with the
International Monetary Fund (IMF), Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

Al-Ississ
said that despite the challenges,
the Kingdom has achieved financial and monetary stability, as evidenced by the stability of the Jordanian financial
rating. He pointed out the increase in capital spending to the highest level in
the history of the Kingdom.
He
confirmed the government’s commitment to not increasing taxes, pointing out the
success of Jordan in reducing the primary deficit and public debt despite the
challenges that emerged from the
COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian-Ukrainian war, the global
economic recession, and the war on Gaza.
Al-Ississ
drew attention to the fact that the pursued financial policy, reforms in the
tax system, and financial
management are the main pillars for maintaining financial stability, stimulating growth, and increasing reliance on locally produced resources to cover public
expenditures.
He
confirmed that the financial and
economic reform program signed with the IMF is
a strategic decision that continues to allow in protecting the middle class
from the repercussions of regional and global conditions.
Al-Ississ
added that the growth in opportunities also came through the application of the
economic vision, enhancing the ability to compete to protect citizens from
monopolies, and enhancing the ability of companies to access the capital
market.
He
pointed out that the financial policy pursued in recent years came intending to gradually reduce the deficit and
debt ratios, indicating that
GDP growth at the end of 2023 reached 2.6 percent
at constant prices.
He
added that giving priority to
national projects is part of the economic reform
vision. One of which is
providing water sources through the
National Water Carrier Project to achieve
water independence for Jordan.
