AMMAN — Minister of Water and Irrigation
Mohammad Al-Najjar said that Jordan’s scarce water resources must be protected to ensure
that water continues to be supplied, and that the rule of law must prevail in
the event of violations anywhere in the country. Inspection campaigns will be
regularly carried out he added, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.

During his
meeting with Director of the Royal Department for Environment and Tourism
Protection of the
Public Security Directorate (PSD) Fakhri Al-Qatarneh and
several water sector representatives, Najjar said that the ministry and the
Royal Department for Environmental and Tourism Protection carry out field
missions to ensure that the water quality is maintained and protected, a move
that was reflected in water situation in many regions, which has noticeably
improved.
He stressed the
need to increase and strengthen cooperation, and coordinate efforts with
directorate in all regions of the Kingdom to ensure that the water transported
in tanks is of quality, to catch violators, and to protect water resources, as
well as to reduce water wastage in the entire country.
Qatarneh
stressed that the PSD assigns various institutions and agencies the role of
acting as an executive arm of state institutions to ensure the enforcement of
the law and the protection of the interests of the nation.
PSD will never
hesitate to take legal action to safeguard water resources which have been
significantly depleted as a result of growing demand.
He noted that the
ministry and the directorate will carry out campaigns in partnership with
police agencies to monitor violations.
