AMMAN — In a recent statement,
Minister of Agriculture Khaled Musa Al Henefat announced on Wednesday that Jordan has achieved a
remarkable surplus in
vegetable producing, reaching an impressive 140 percent.
Additionally, the Kingdom has attained a self-sufficiency rate of approximately
61 percent in fruits, milk, and table eggs.

During an interview, he shed light on the factors
influencing the importation of specific food items. According to him, such
imports are closely tied to the principles of supply and demand, as well as the
requirements of the
Jordanian consumer, Khaberni reported.
He further emphasized the importance of considering market
needs when determining which food items should be imported. By
aligning imports with the actual demands of the market, the ministry aims to ensure a
well-balanced and sustainable food supply for the nation.
The Kingdom’s food security
Regarding food security, Henefat expressed his confidence in
Jordan's resilience and ability to overcome crises. He highlighted the
country's successful management of challenges faced during global events such
as the COVID-19 pandemic and the
Russian-Ukrainian war. These accomplishments
have garnered recognition from international organizations, affirming Jordan's
capacity to safeguard its food security.
The ministry is actively engaged in promoting rural
development projects, with a primary focus on food processing.
By enhancing these initiatives, Henefat aims to bolster the
agricultural sector and stimulate local economies. He stressed the ministry's
continuous efforts to establish exhibitions and bazaars that effectively
showcase and market locally-produced goods.
Moreover, he revealed that the ministry supports investments
in the food sector by exempting factories from certain fees. This strategic
measure aims to encourage further investment and innovation, ensuring the
growth and sustainability of Jordan's food industry.
As Jordan celebrates these achievements in agriculture, the
nation moves forward with determination, guided by the vision of achieving food
security, promoting self-sufficiency, and strengthening its agricultural sector
