A report on ways of mitigating the impact of climate
change, titled “How the climate system in the
MENA region affects its water
resources” and published by the Middle East Institute, indicated that the
effects of climate change could be reduced through accurate planning.
Jordan’s water sector focuses on countering the
challenges of drought and coping with climate change through appropriate
policies and regulations.
An official source at the Ministry of Water said
that
climate change impacts water sector policy, which follows a proactive and
precautionary approach to protect the limited water resources.
The report pointed out that accurate planning should
include managing facilities and reducing the negative impact of their users, in
addition to finance agreements that are designed to tackle the damage caused by
high levels of salinity.
It also stressed that it is important to increase
cooperation among countries in the region if owners of water resources projects
are to expand their potentials.
