AMMAN —The water situation is “very
critical” this year and penalties must be toughened for violators and
aggressors of the scarce commodity, said Ministry of Water and Irrigation
spokesperson
Omar Salama, according to Jo24.

Salameh said the ministry is making every effort to
provide water in sufficient quantities for all citizens, noting that ministry
cadres are doubling their effort to deliver water in a timely and organized
fashion.
Salameh pointed out that the current water situation
is similar to previous years, impacted by
climate change which resulted in
depleted rainfall.
He said the ministry is drawing up plans to ensure
the provision of water to citizens, insisting the supply must be “preserved,
not wasted”.
At the end of the coronavirus
pandemic, there was an
increase in the number of tourists to the Kingdom coupled with the return of
Jordanian expatriates, which burdened water quantities.
Currently, Jordan is digging new wells and working on
rehabilitating old wells to ensure adequate supplies to all, especially during
the torrid summer.
