Held from March 5-8, the
ITB Berlin Tourism Expo is recognized as the world's largest travel trade fair.
This year, it attracted 5,500 participants from 111 countries and garnered the
interest of over 90,000 visitors keen on exploring the tourism sector,
Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
During the event, Qaisi held
several press meetings with international media outlets, aiming to convey
Jordan's message globally. The focus was on highlighting Jordan's rich
offerings in religious, historical, therapeutic, adventure, and community-based
tourism. Qaisi emphasized Jordan's readiness to welcome tourists, promoting a
sense of reassurance by opening its doors to visitors from around the world.
In discussions with Arab
counterparts, including Jordan's Ambassador to Germany, Yousef Al-Bataineh,
efforts centered on enhancing bilateral tourism and creating integrated tourist
regions. Notably, the Middle East demonstrated genuine
recovery in tourism,
surpassing 2019 figures despite challenges.
A significant highlight of
the exhibition was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) declaring
Aqaba a green and environmentally friendly tourist destination. Naif Al-Fayez,
Chairman of the
Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), signed the MoU.
Given the appeal of such eco-friendly destinations to responsible travelers,
this initiative aims to attract Western tourists to Aqaba.
Moreover, Qaisi engaged with
low-cost and charter airlines, signing contracts to bolster the Jordanian
tourism market with foreign tourists. These efforts are crucial for the
sector's recovery following challenges such as cancellations due to regional tensions.
The JTB's ambitious plans to open
new markets led to the signing of six contracts with charter airlines from five
European countries. These contracts will result in 72 flights starting from May
1 until the end of the year, contributing significantly to Jordan's tourism
recovery efforts.
Arabiyat emphasized the
importance of the board's participation in the ITB Berlin Expo. He highlighted
the board's commitment to showcasing Jordan's unique attractions and products
to millions of tourists worldwide.
The Jordanian pavilion
received significant attention from senior officials and tourism
decision-makers, reflecting the growing interest in Jordan as a tourist
destination. Contracts signed with tourism and travel companies from Slovakia,
Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, and Bulgaria further solidify Jordan's
presence in the global tourism market.
In addition, the
Petra Development Tourism Regional Authority (PDTRA) capitalized on the exhibition,
signing agreements to enhance Petra's position as a premier tourist destination
globally.
Jordan's success in the ITB
Berlin Tourism Expo underscores its importance in promoting tourism and forging
valuable partnerships, reaffirming Jordan's position as a key player in the
global tourism landscape.
