AMMAN — Reza Al-Khawalda, president of the Jordanian Society
for Scientific Research, said Jordan is currently participating in the
Mediterranean Information and Communication Technology Heritage Platform,
alongside six other countries, which aims to create digital products that
provide customers with diverse and interesting experiences from a distance
without physically being present at the site.

These digital technologies are also used to register and
gather information on all archaeological sites in one place. The number of
discovered archaeological sites in the kingdom has reached 100,000, with 15,000
of them registered.
Product exhibition
This was announced in a speech delivered by the assistant
director of the Department of Antiquities, Ahmed Musa, on behalf of the
minister of tourism and antiquities, Makram Al-Qaisi, during the opening of the
launch workshop of the platform for
UNESCO in Petra.
Musa said that the process of transferring, developing, and
using technology to interpret and clarify the cultural significance of
archaeological sites contributes to relieving pressure from these sites,
developing and documenting archaeological information, managing the sites, and
adding new products to archaeological sites.
Applying it to Jordan
The exhibition, organized by the
Jordanian Society for Scientific Research, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation in collaboration with the
Department of Antiquities, includes the official website of Petra and other
tourist and heritage sites. It allows visitors to virtually explore them in
3D digital technology.
Musa also emphasized the importance of the platform in
promoting Jordan's tourist and archaeological sites globally, especially Petra,
through digital technology that attracts tourists and visitors from around the
world. Additionally, the project aims to involve young people, provide job
opportunities, and support collaboration between universities and startups.
Promoting the project
He explained that the Association would hold promotional
events for the project, including exhibitions of digital products and
platforms, to attract international, regional, and Jordanian companies for
potential collaboration and further development of these products. The event
would also introduce investors to the electronic platform and the products
developed by the project.
Talal Al-Aksha, the project's director, presented digital
products and platforms produced by the project team and introduced guests and
investors to the electronic platform and the products developed by the
Association. The exhibition includes digital products related to Petra,
Jordanian folklore, museums, and the Association's website, all presented using
hologram technology.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, a panel discussion will
be held on technology, project products, and investment opportunities available
through these products, with the participation of relevant companies,
businessmen, and specialists.
The project's product exhibition is open to the public at
the Visitors' Center in Petra.
