AMMAN – On Wednesday, the Northern Military Zone successfully thwarted an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle large quantities of narcotics originating from Syrian territory, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

According to a military source at the Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army (JAF), border guard forces, in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, detected an unauthorized attempt by a group of smugglers to cross the border from Syrian lands into Jordanian territory.
The source added that rapid reaction patrols were deployed, and direct shooting engagement rules were applied, resulting in injuries to some of the smugglers who retreated back into Syrian territory along with others. Following intensified search and inspection operations in the area, significant amounts of narcotics were discovered and subsequently handed over to the relevant authorities.
