The Ministry's project, in partnership with
the
Civil Status and Passports Department (CSPD), intends to issue electronic
passports equipped with an electronic chip carrying all of the passport
holder's personal data. These passports can be read electronically at airports
and border crossings.
This phase is part of the government's digital
transformation plan for public services, which aims to transfer various
government services to digital formats.
According to Hanandeh, the government selected
a
specialist technology company from among the eight companies that made
technical and financial proposals to win the project contract. The project
focuses on distributing and issuing electronic passports, with payment
depending on the defined passports that match the necessary standards.
The government is dedicated to offering this
service and issuing passports that meet the highest worldwide technological and
security requirements, assuring protection against counterfeiting.
It is worth noting that this new project
differs from the electronic passport issuing or renewal service launched in
2018. The current service is available via the CSPD's website or through the
e-government portal, removing the need to visit any of the department's offices
for passport issuance or renewal.
The Ministry
of
Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship has digitalized 45 percent of
government services, resulting in 1077 electronic services. These services
include vital government agencies that directly affect citizens.
