The department said that last year, Jordan witnessed
a normal amount of precipitation in the central regions of Amman, Balqaa, and
Zarqa, while in the southern regions, rainfall was below the normal rate.
Director-General of the Jordan Farmers Union
Mohammad Al-Oran said that prior to 2019, rainfall rates were “good”, but since
then, precipitations have been lower than normal.
The sharp rise in temperatures has had a significant
impact on sustainable development, and soil and water, which, in turn, has
affected agriculture and livestock production, he said.
Oran called for activating land use systems and
drafting a comprehensive plan for agricultural and livestock production in
response to climate change.
