“Peace is a key social determinant of public health,” Hawari told the World Health Assembly’s 75th session in Geneva, said the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

“Jordan is one of the countries that made the most commitments to the ‘Health for Peace’ initiative by responding to many issues, such as successive refugee waves and providing adequate health care to refugees,” Hawari added.

He emphasized that refugees in Jordan are treated as citizens in terms of healthcare, which helps to alleviate the negative consequences on their life and health.

He maintained that Jordan has always advocated “health for peace and peace for health”, as seen by plans and programs to address the health, social, and economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. He cited Jordan’s coronavirus vaccine campaign, which began in January 2021.

Jordan has provided fair and free access to the vaccine for all, including refugees, through its COVID-19 vaccination campaign, the minister said.

The World Health Assembly, held under the theme “Health for Peace, Peace for Health,” is the World Health Organization’s highest decision-making body. The meeting is attended by delegates from 194 member states.
