Jordan witnesses an increase in traffic safety laws and technology

AMMAN – The Director of Public Security, Maj. Gen. Dr. Abeidallah Maaitah, emphasized the importance of moving forward with implementing a traffic strategy aimed at improving a safe traffic environment, evaluating its plans and procedures, and providing the necessary solutions to alleviate congestion in various regions of the Kingdom, reported Hala News.اضافة اعلان

This statement came after a representative from the external patrols explained during the morning traffic report that a 12-year-old was caught driving a vehicle on the Zarqa-Mafraq road opposite Hashemite University at 4:00 a.m. and was referred to the security center for legal action.

The representative of the external patrols added via the Public Security Radio that in the morning, a collision occurred between two vehicles near the Hashemite University, resulting in obstruction of the right lane of the road and an injury that was transferred to Al-Zarqa Governmental Hospital. The traffic impact was dealt with, and the obstacles were removed from the road.

He noted that other accidents occurred in the last 24 hours, the most notable of which was the overturning of a soybean-laden truck on the right side of the road in the Al-Qweira area. The accident injured the truck driver and spilled soybeans and diesel fuel on the road. The traffic impact was mitigated, the obstructions were removed from the scene, and the driver was sent to Prince Hashem Military Hospital.

Maaitah expressed his appreciation to His Majesty the King, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and all traffic departments, praising their efforts, especially their provision of assistance and help to citizens and providing a safe traffic environment for them around the clock and in various circumstances and times.

He added that since the new traffic law came into effect, there has been a decline in the number of traffic accidents and violations, especially dangerous ones of all types and forms. He directed officials to measure this impact and conduct a scientific study and a detailed comparison to identify the traffic situation and address any negative results.

Maaitah stressed the importance of continuing to enforce the law on everyone, without bias or discrimination, to move forward in implementing the traffic strategy aimed at reducing traffic accidents and violations to protect lives and stop the depletion of resources.

He explained the importance of benefiting from modern technology in enhancing the traffic work system by intensifying traffic control on various streets of the Kingdom, especially vital areas that witness traffic congestion. Maaitah stressed that the Public Security Directorate (PSD) will provide the necessary support to all traffic departments, which will enable them to update their systems and procedures.

Maaitah listened to a briefing by the Director of the Traffic Department on the most important operational, legal, and training axes intended to increase worker readiness in the department, guarantee the provision of a safe traffic environment on the roads, and maintain the security and safety of citizens.

Surge in visitors to the Drivers and Vehicles Licensing Department
Since the deployment of a new artificial intelligence (AI) identification system in street cameras that tracks expired licenses, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Department (DVLD) has seen a considerable rise in visitors wanting to renew their licenses and other expired documentation related to their cars.

The director of the DVLD, Engineer Omar Al-Quran, confirmed that the number of daily visitors to the licensing and vehicle departments exceeded 35,000 in 2023.

During an interview with Hala News Radio, Quran said that the daily rate of transactions completed in the DVLD reached 22,800 transactions in 2023, compared to 22,000 transactions in 2022, with an increase rate of 7.3 percent.

He added that there are three types of transactions that the licensing department processes, whether they are face-to-face or electronic, which provides 38 services that citizens can benefit from without face-to-face visits.

He explained that 2.5 million transactions related to vehicles were completed in 2023, including renewals and first-time registrations, as well as all types of transactions related to vehicles. As for drivers, 436,000 transactions were completed, whether issuing licenses for the first time, renewing, or developing licenses.

Regarding the electronic portal, 1.25 million transactions were completed during the past year.

Quran stated that there are 11 mobile licensing centers dispersed around the Kingdom, with 377,000 transactions processed in 2023. The average time to execute transactions was 9-15 minutes, but the advertised reference time was half an hour.

He said that vehicle licenses were renewed for 670,000 citizens through the Drive Thru service, which enables citizens to complete vehicle license renewal transactions through special lanes without leaving their vehicles.

Drivers are urged to comply with traffic rules and priorities, avoid dangerous violations, comply with designated lanes, and avoid high speeds to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
