AMMAN – A military source in the General Command of the
Jordanian Armed Forces - the Arab Army (JAF), announced on Tuesday that one of its
personnel had been killed in an armed clash with smugglers on the
northern Jordanian border.

According to Al-Mamlaka TV, the source mentioned in a
statement that at exactly four o'clock on Tuesday morning, an armed clash
occurred on the northern border of the Kingdom with dozens of
smugglers who opened fire on the Jordanian border guards. They reportedly took advantage of
low visibility and dense fog to smuggle large quantities of drugs. Rules of
engagement were applied, resulting in the killing of several smugglers and
forcing the remaining ones to flee deeper into Syrian territory.
The source added that the clash led to the killing of
Warrant Officer Iyad Abdul Hamid Al-Nuaimi and the injury of Warrant Officer
Salem Muftan Salem, both from the
Border Guards. The injured was evacuated to
Al-Ruwaished Government Hospital, and his condition is reported as moderate.
The source affirmed that the
Jordanian Armed Forces - the
Arab Army deals forcefully and firmly with any infiltration or attempt to
smuggle, protecting the borders and preventing anyone from endangering Jordan's
national security.
The General Command of the Armed Forces mourned the death of
Iyad Al-Nuaimi and also wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
