AMMAN — A team of
legal experts from the Jordanian Bar Association convened their inaugural
meeting to address the Gaza situation and explore avenues for the international
criminal prosecution of the Israeli government, its authorities, leaders, and
those with individual responsibilities, in line with the Rome Statute of the
International Criminal Court.
Their statement reads:
"In a land where church courtyards seamlessly blend with mosque corridors,
where mosques and churches share a common entrance and a single stone
staircase, and where believers ascend towards their respective places of
worship, seeking the presence of the one God in one homeland. From Amman,
overlooking the estrangement of mountains, the Jerusalem hills, the Mount of
Fire, and the plains of Jericho in Palestine, no other place rivals the
affection we hold for this land except steadfast Jordan. As Bahjat al-Salibi,
may he rest in peace, once said, while standing on the hills of Amman and
gazing at the towns and homes of occupied Palestine: 'Our homes are there, in
that land,’” Khaberni reported.
The volunteer legal
team from Amman is resolute in preparing the initial report to be submitted to
the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, the International
Committee of Human Rights, and the Human Rights Council.
The preliminary draft
classifies the crimes committed by the Israeli authorities, the Israeli
military, and the Israeli leaders under the following main headings:
- Genocide
- Crimes against
humanity
- War crimes
- Crime of aggression
Beneath these
headings, the most severe criminal acts perpetrated by the Israeli government,
military, and leaders are detailed:
- Deliberate killings
and imposing conditions designed to result in the complete or partial
destruction of individuals.
- Forced displacement
of the population, collective persecution, racial segregation, and inhumane
acts.
- Imposing living
conditions that include depriving access to food and medicine.
- Additionally, the
Israeli authorities have deliberately deprived civilian populations of
electricity with the intent of destroying the legitimate population on their
land under an unjust pretext, which involves coercing innocent civilians into
surrendering resistance elements.
- Forcible
displacement of the population from their area through eviction or other
criminal acts, achieved by repeatedly launching targeted attacks against groups
of civilians in a deliberate pattern that constitutes acts categorized as
crimes within the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.
- Deliberate attacks
by users on facilities and buildings...
- Deliberate attacks
on Gaza territory, with knowledge that these attacks will result in casualties
in terms of lives...
- Attacking and
bombing villages, towns, hospitals, and places of worship...
Crimes involving
imposing a siege, causing starvation, racial segregation, collective
punishment, and inhumane treatment.
