The cutting-edge observatory has 23
seismic monitoring stations spread out across the Kingdom to
collect data on earthquakes,
including slow earthquakes, to be used by engineers and specialized researchers
to understand and interpret the mechanism of the earth’s movement and prepare earthquake-resistant
building codes.
In a statement released on Monday, the observatory's
president, Ghassan Sweidan, noted that 173
earthquakes were local, 301 were
regional, and 210 happened in international areas, including Indonesia and New
Zealand, Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.
He added that the strength of the tremors recorded inside
