Jordanians from all walks of life marked on Monday the 23rd anniversary of His
Majesty King Abdullah’s assumption of constitutional powers and honored the
memory of His Majesty the late King Hussein, a great leader who dedicated
himself to serving his country and his people for 47 years.

In a post on
social media, the Royal Court affirmed the determination to continue building
and achieving under the leadership of King Abdullah, asking God Almighty to
prolong His Majesty’s life and keep him as a father, teacher, and leader.
On February 7,
1999, His Majesty King Abdullah II assumed constitutional powers and embarked
on major reforms in the political, social, economic and administrative spheres.
In June last year,
His Majesty formed the Royal Committee to Modernize the Political System,
tasked with drafting new elections and political parties laws and related
constitutional amendments, and on his 60th birthday, King Abdullah said
intensive efforts at all levels, improved performance in various sectors, and
provision of quality services are some of the factors that could work to ensure
a bright future for the country.
Earlier on Monday, the
King, accompanied by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, visited the tomb of His Majesty
the late King Hussein, on the 23rd anniversary of his passing. King Abdullah
and Crown Prince Hussein laid a wreath at the tomb and recited verses from the
Quran. Several Royal family members, and senior officials and officers also
visited the tomb.
