AMMAN — On Tuesday, Jordan marks the 24th anniversary of the death
of
King Hussein, who passed away at the age of 63 after a battle with cancer.

King Abdullah was proclaimed King on
the same day.
King Hussein, the eldest son of King
Talal and Queen Zein Al Sharaf, was born on November 14, 1935 and had a
distinguished education, attending the Islamic Scientific College, Alexandria's
Victoria College, Harrow College in England, and graduating from the
Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1953.
In 1952, at the age of 16,
King Hussein was proclaimed King of Jordan and assumed constitutional powers on May 2, 1953,
at the age of 18, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
During his 47-year reign, King
Hussein dedicated himself to serving his country and people and laid the foundation
for modern Jordan.
Today, Jordanians honor the memory
of King Hussein, who will always be remembered for his leadership and
dedication to his country.
