Speaking to Jeish
FM radio on Sunday, Hijjawi said the current wave of omicron mutant that
entered Jordan two weeks ago will spread faster than previous waves and will
also witness higher infection rates than its predecessors.
Hijjawi added
that during the second week of the fourth wave of omicron mutant infection
rates were already higher than those registered during the peak of the third
wave. He expected between 50,000 to
60,000 cases to be recorded at the peak of the current wave, which Jordan may
reach before 20 February 20.
Hijjawi confirmed that
the incubation period of the new omicron mutant is less than
delta, and
therefore quarantine period will be seven days if there are no symptoms and 10
days if there are symptoms. Therefore, he added, the infected person can leave
the house after this period provided that a mask is worn because of the
possibility of transmitting the infection to others.
