AMMAN — The Director-General of the
Jordan Silos and Supply General Company, Emad Al-Tarawneh has affirmed that the recent reduction in
storage fees within the company's warehouses, implemented at the beginning of
January, has increased traders' interest in storing both dried and refrigerated
food items. The decrease in storage fees has resulted in a substantial increase
in storage rates within the company's warehouses, now reaching 51 percent of
the total available space, a notable rise from the previous 35 percent before
the decision to reduce storage fees was implemented.

Tarawneh mentioned that reducing storage fees within the
company's warehouses is part of government measures to reduce inflationary
pressures and face potential price hikes, in light of the rise in shipping
costs, to encourage the private sector and civil and military consumption
institutions to maintain a secure strategic
stock of essential goods for
citizens, Al-Ghad reported.
The company has reduced storage fees for dry, refrigerated,
and frozen food items in its warehouses by up to 40 percent, starting
mid-January, to lower traders' costs amid rising shipping expenses due to
regional tensions caused by Israel's war on the Gaza Strip. Notably, this
decision applies to goods previously stored in the warehouses.
Tarawneh stated that the private sector's storage rate for
dry food items has reached 60 percent with a capacity of 30 thousand tonnes out
of 50 thousand, the total storage capacity of warehouses owned by the company
in the north, Aqaba, and Al-Jweideh in Amman. Additionally, he clarified that
the storage rates for refrigerated and frozen items have reached 20 percent,
which is three thousand tonnes out of a
total storage capacity of 15 thousand
tonnes.
The storage of dry food items is concentrated in the central
region because the warehouses in the north and south have become ready for use
after maintenance, while the storage of refrigerated and frozen items is
concentrated in the north because the warehouses in the south and central
regions underwent maintenance and have become ready.
Tarawneh indicated that the storage rates for dry food items
in the Al-Jweideh complex in Amman have reached 100 percent with a capacity of
30 thousand tonnes through 10 warehouses. In addition, he explained that the
storage rates for refrigerated and
frozen goods in the northern complex have
reached 60 percent, with a capacity of three thousand tonnes out of five
thousand tonnes of storage capacity.
Notably, incentive prices for dry warehouses have been
adjusted, now set at JD2,800 monthly for a 2,700 square meter capacity, and
JD3,150 for 3,300 square meters. Additionally, in the refrigerated section of
the complex, prices for five rooms with a capacity of 1,000 tonnes each have
been reduced to JD5,100 from JD8,000 monthly. Similarly, three rooms with 500
tonnes capacity are now priced at JD3,200 instead of JD5,200, and six rooms
with 250 tonnes capacity are offered at JD1,700 instead of JD2,880.
As for the southern complex, the incentive price is JD2,300
instead of JD4,500 for a capacity of 2700 square meters, and JD2,700 instead of
JD5,000 for a capacity of 3600 square meters, and JD2,000 instead of JD3,750
for a capacity of 2100 square meters.
Tarawneh pointed out that the company has recently completed
maintenance work for the Aqaba complex, and there have been extensive visits by
the private sector to reserve spaces for storing dry, refrigerated, and frozen
food items. The incentive price for storage in the Aqaba complex is JD2,100
instead of JD3,600 for a capacity of 2700 square meters.
He emphasized that the incentivized storage prices within
the company's warehouses are close to cost and lower for the private sector,
based on its role as a warehousing arm for the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and
Supply, to alleviate burdens and costs on the private sector and ensure price
stability in the local market.
Tarawneh affirmed that the storage conditions within the
company's warehouses are within the highest international standards for
preserving products, in addition to providing continuous security for these
warehouses.
