The award came in recognition of KOSPO Jordan’s multiple achievements represented in its contribution to stabilizing the power generation market in the country, safety, environmental and social responsibility.

KOSPO Jordan is owned by Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd., which is a power generation public enterprise owned by the government of the Republic of Korea.

It is responsible for supplying 12% of the energy in the Korean electricity market with an installed capacity of 14,000 MW.

It runs power generation projects of about 2,700 MW in Jordan, Chile, and the United States.

When it comes to KOSPO Jordan was established in 2009 to be the operator of Al Qatrana Power Plant, and it expanded its business area in 2021 to include renewable energy by developing and investing in a wind power plant in the Tafilah region.

KOSPO Jordan has been recognized as one of the best companies in Jordan for contributing greatly to the development of the Jordanian economy and the stability of the power grid by stably supplying about 10% of Jordan’s total electricity for the past 15 years while operating the Al Qatrana Power Plant, a 373MW gas-fired combined cycle plant, as well as maintaining the impressive record of zero accidents and zero disasters throughout all 15 years of operation.

This can be attributed to KOSPO Jordan’s safety-first policy where all management systems of the company, including Korea’s excellent lock-out system, risk pre-assessment system, and provision of top-quality safety equipment, were operated with safety as the main orientation.

Senior Engineer Ahmad Al Mobaideen said, “Since the appointment of the CEO Dr. Kim Gyeong-sam in KOSPO Jordan, all safety equipment has been provided as high-quality Korean products.

This proves that safe operation is the management’s first priority.”

Not only does KOSPO Jordan stand out in its high expertise and professionalism in operating the power plant, but it also shows autonomy, responsibility, hope, fairness, and community contribution everywhere in the management system.

Mr. Faris Al Rawashdeh, the head of the HR team, described the HR management system as a “fair and human-centered system that seeks to recognize employees’ abilities and give them fair opportunities such as promotion and incentive compensation”, ”this is an advantage of our company that resulted from combining Jordanian culture and Korean management system as well as maintaining a harmonious relationship with labor union.”

The company’s pride in its employees could be witnessed at the entrance of the admin building of the power plant, where photos of outstanding employees from each year are displayed along with letters and plaques of appreciation from various organizations such as the Jordanian Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Social Security Corporation, Al Greater Karak Municipality etc.,  “We created the bulletin board to instill pride in our employees and express appreciation and acknowledgment to them” said Mr. Kim Young-ju, the CFO of KOSPO Jordan.

The employees’ expressions were free and confident, which makes you feel that Korean and Jordanian cultures were fused together. Mr. Mohammad Al Majali, the head of the mechanical team, said “Koreans have a strong sense of responsibility for their work, are very fast at processing work, and put the collective interest over the individual. I think this is the secret to how South Korea, which was the poorest country in the world 60 years ago, grew into the world’s 10th largest economy. As Jordanian employees, we always try to take every opportunity to learn from these strengths while working with the Korean management.”

“We grow together” is the motto of KOSPO Jordan’s CEO, which could be seen translated by the many plaques of appreciation from local institutions such as Muta University, Al Qatrana area schools, and Al Dhiaa Society.

The Head of I&C Team, Mr. Abdullah AL Jamal said, “The CEO, Dr. Kim Gyeong-sam, has a management philosophy of growing together with Jordan and sharing the future with it, which is behind the great effort made by KOSPO Jordan to improve the educational environment for future generations in Jordan through projects such as the Green Academy project with Muta University, KOSPO Science Lab in elementary and middle schools in Al Qatrana area, and donating Braille devices for visually impaired children.

” Dr. Kim Gyeong-sam, the CEO, said, “Growing together with the local community is the mission of an advanced company. In particular, he said that building and supporting science labs in nearby schools is to give hope to the youth who will take responsibility for Jordan’s future and that he hopes that Jordan will grow into a science and technology powerhouse based on this.”

In addition to improving the educational environment, KOSPO Jordan is also engaged in various social contribution activities such as providing energy technology to refugee camps and donating food boxes during Ramadan to help vulnerable groups around power plants.

In particular, during this year’s Ramadan, all employees of the corporation voluntarily participated in donations, donating twice as many food boxes as last year.

The Head of P&E Team Mr. Mahmoud Abu Amro said, “Until last year, only the company donated food boxes, but starting this year, all employees voluntarily participated in the donation. We learned a sense of community by practicing sharing together.”

A healthy and green environment also holds an important position in KOSPO Jordan’s management philosophy, where upon arriving at the main gate of the power plant, the first thing to catch one's eye would be the green forest surrounding the power plant.

This is the fruit of a greening project promoted three years ago by the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and KOSPO Jordan around the power plant.

HSE Team Leader Mr. Abdelaziz Al Sheikh explained, “This greening project embodies the philosophy and efforts of Korean management and the Jordanian government to fight desertification by transforming deserts into forests through tree planting and responding to climate change.”

The CEO expressed that Korea and Jordan have many similarities, such as family-centered thinking, courtesy toward guests, and high enthusiasm for education, and that by combining the strengths of both countries, the economies of both countries will be able to grow more quickly.

He also commented that in the future, the company will continue seeking growth together through communication and interaction with local employees and Jordanian society.
