The ambassador's comment was made during a press conference convened to discuss
the state-of-the-nation address given by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev
on September 1 at the start of the ordinary session of the Kazakh parliament.
"Trade exchange between Jordan and Kazakhstan remains modest due to
several logistical difficulties, most notably the distance and [Kazakhstan's]
lack of a sea outlet," he said, adding that efforts by both countries will
be bolstered by the upcoming Joint Higher Committee meeting.
On reforms in his country, he said that it was decided to hold early presidential
elections slated for this autumn, and parliamentary polls in 2023.
He cited efforts to further liberalize the political party
legislation, de-monopolize the economy, support small and medium-sized
businesses, foster competition in the utilities and energy sector, create a
flexible tax policy, expand transit potential, and enhance health care services.
The envoy said additional reforms include raising salaries and pensions, and allowing
the president to reign for one term of 7 years, which is sufficient time to
allow rulers to implement their self-proclaimed agendas.
