AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday honored winners of the international and national Hashemite Competition for Holy Quran Memorization and Recitation, according to a Royal Court statement. King Abdullah honored 37 national and five international winners, in addition to nine panel members and the competition’s supervisor. Certificates were handed to winners at the closing ceremony, held at the King Hussein bin Talal Mosque. The Hashemite Competition for Holy Quran Memorization and Recitation for men and women is one of the oldest international Quran competitions, launched in 1993 with Royal support and organized annually by Jordan's Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. Since its inception, the competition has witnessed the participation of 30,000 contestants, including 1,050 winners.
