AMMAN — His Majesty
King Abdullah , on Sunday at
Basman Palace, met with the president of the
Higher Council for the Rights ofPersons with Disabilities (HCD), HH Prince Mired bin Ra’ad, and a number of
council members, according to a Royal Court statement.

During the meeting, which coincided with the International
Day of Persons with Disabilities observed annually on December 3, King Abdullah
stressed the important role of the HCD in formulating policies and proposing
legislation to protect the rights of persons with disabilities, as well as its
role in their economic, social, and political empowerment in partnership with
the relevant stakeholders.
His Majesty emphasized the need to address challenges faced
by persons with disabilities in cooperation with the government.
Voicing his full support for persons with disabilities, the
King noted the importance of bolstering their engagement in the process of
development and modernization.
For his part, Prince Mired noted that the progress achieved
for persons with disabilities, under the leadership of His Majesty, is a source
of pride that compels everyone to continue efforts to overcome all obstacles
facing their empowerment.
During the meeting, the King was briefed on the legislation,
strategies, and plans developed to ensure equal opportunity for persons with
disabilities, in addition to the HCD’s plans towards integrated education and
enhancing cooperation with partners and supporters.
Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi and Director of
the Office of His Majesty
Jafar Hassan attended the meeting.
