The meeting covered domestic concerns, especially the
political, economic, and administrative reform process, Jordan’s ability to
face numerous challenges, and the Kingdom’s regional and international role.
During the meeting, King Abdullah reiterated Jordan’s
commitment to political modernization and enhancing the role of political
parties.
His Majesty stressed that political modernization targets
youths, noting that reaching a full consensus on all its aspects is unlikely,
especially when it comes to older generations.
Calling for presenting a clear roadmap for the way forward
to the public, the King stressed the need to counter those who do not want
Jordan to progress. “We will not take one step forward and two steps back,” he
said.
His Majesty reiterated that Jordan is advancing ahead firmly
and earnestly with economic development and administrative reform, adding that
the Kingdom will not allow its efforts to be hindered by sceptics or by
regional challenges.
Turning to the economy, the King said Jordan’s development
and employment goals will not be achieved without a clear vision.
The upcoming
National Economic Workshop, to be launched as
of next Saturday, will be held in full partnership between the private sector
and the government, His Majesty said.
“It is my responsibility to direct institutions and oversee
their implementation of the aspired reforms, without any hesitation,” the King
added, urging the media to follow up and oversee the implementation of the
resulting economic vision across successive governments.
Responding to questions on the situation on the border, His
Majesty reaffirmed Jordan’s ability to safeguard its borders boldly and firmly,
stressing that “we will not stand idly by and allow any group or entity to
threaten our security and our borders”.
Commenting on the
Palestinian cause, the King said Jordan
exerts relentless efforts on a daily basis to safeguard Islamic and Christian
holy sites in Jerusalem, stressing Jordan’s clear and unwavering stance.
His Majesty said Jordan is confident in the measures it is
taking to safeguard the holy sites and to defend the Palestinian cause, adding
that “without Jordan, the situation would have been very different”.
For their part, the attendees discussed several local,
regional, and international issues.
They stressed that Jordan’s progress is being targeted, and
that such attacks must be confronted by moving forward with reform and
progress, highlighting the importance of the enrolment of young Jordanians in
platform-based partisan activism to achieve progress.
A number of attendees called for developing media tools that
are more capable of addressing audiences and delivering state messages, while
others noted that misinformation spreads quickly via
social media platforms,
which points to the importance of sharing facts to counter rumors.
They also suggested expanding development gains, taking
measures to counter
unemployment and poverty, carrying out more field visits by
officials, facilitating investment procedures and offering incentives tied to
employment, and revisiting the distribution of development zones.
