King urges stepping up efforts to create political horizon for Palestinian cause

NEW YORK — His Majesty King Abdullah, at a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday, reiterated that the Palestinian cause is a Jordanian priority, calling for maintaining Jordanian-Palestinian coordination on various levels, to support the Palestinians in gaining their legitimate rights, according to a Royal Court statement.اضافة اعلان

At a meeting attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, King Abdullah highlighted the need to maintain and step up coordination with Arab states and international partners to push towards creating a political horizon for the Palestinian cause.

His Majesty stressed the need to include the Palestinians in regional economic projects, in order to empower them and support their resilience.

At the meeting, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, the King reaffirmed that the two-state solution is the only way to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

His Majesty said Jordan will maintain all efforts to safeguard Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, under the Hashemite Custodianship.

For his part, President Abbas commended Jordan’s role in advocating for the Palestinian cause at the international stage, and supporting the Palestinian people’s pursuit of their just and legitimate rights.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Jordan’s Ambassador in Washington, DC, Dina Kawar attended the meeting.
