— The
Ministry of Education in Kuwait has made a decision to localize jobs in
the education sector, which has impacted over 2,000 teachers and department
heads across 14 specializations, reported Jo24.

The
move affects employees from 24 nationalities from around the world, according
to a Kuwaiti news outlet.
Egyptian
teachers are majority of affectedStatistics
show that the majority of those affected by the localization plan are
Egyptians, accounting for 82.09 percent of terminated services at the end of
the current academic year 2022–2023. Syrian teachers came in second place,
accounting for 11.03 percent of those covered by the localization decision.
Jordanian nationals were third with a percentage of 3.55, followed by Iranians with 0.73 percent and Iraqis with 0.68 percent.

The
list of terminated employees included individuals from 24 different countries,
including Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, India, Nigeria, Iran, Yemen, Morocco,
Lebanon, Eritrea, Senegal, Sudan, Oman, Tunisia, Afghanistan, Canada, Somalia,
Italy, Kenya, Russia, the Philippines, Ghana, and Pakistan.
The
Ministry of Education had previously announced its intention to terminate the
services of 1,815 teachers, in addition to over 200 department heads who are
expatriates working in the ministry, by the end of the current academic year.
