Steitieh said that permits are granted within the
framework of the
ministry’s efforts to regulate expatriate workers, that the
regulation prevents issuing work permits for the first time to people of
certain nationalities who entered Jordan with the intention of visiting, and
that the regulation was issued years ago but is being underlined again by the
ministry.
According to Steitieh, first-time work permits will
not be issued to foreign women to work in bars, clubs, and nightclubs.
President of the Trade Union for Workers in General Services
and Free Vocations
Khaled Abu Marjoub put the number of migrant women workers
in nightclubs in Jordan at 3,000 to 5,000. He said that these women work in 73
licensed nightclubs, concentrated in Amman and Aqaba.
