AMMAN — The
Ministry of Labor has launched
a 12-month awareness campaign under the slogan “Aware” on workers’ rights under
the Jordan Labor and Social Security Laws, in cooperation with the
International Labor Organization, the Jordanian National Commission for Women,
and the Greater Amman Municipality, according to Jo24.

The ministry continually publishes informational
messages for workers highlighting Article 71 of the Labor Law, whereby every
working woman is entitled to a paid period no longer than one hour per day for
breastfeeding her newborn after her maternity leave ends, for up to one year
after childbirth, according to a statement issued on Saturday.
Meanwhile, under
Article 70 of the
Labor Law, working women are entitled to a total of 10 weeks
of fully paid maternity leave before and after childbirth, provided that the
period that falls after childbirth is no less than six weeks.
According to Article 27 of the Labor Law, an
employer is not permitted to dismiss a pregnant woman after the sixth month of
pregnancy, or during the period of her maternity leave.
Workers are also entitled to three days of paid
paternity leave, according to Article 66 of the Labor Law.
